I am a recent finder of this group and feel welcomed and accepted among the other members. Though I am nearly 80, I have not been on my journey as long as some of the others, and I don't know exactly where I want to end up — but I enjoy the company and the heartfelt comments and reinforcement I get by having live, caring people to talk to. It gives me confidence to just be me every day. I am glad I decided to take the opportunity to join this group.

Meet who keeps this room open.
We started meeting in 2014 because some of us couldn't find a room that fit. So we built one. Once a month, in person, in Phoenix. These are the people who keep it open.
Jules
Snack rotation. Door buzzer.
Came in eighteen months into transition and finally stopped explaining herself in every room. Brings the snacks now because she remembers what it felt like to sit through a meeting on an empty stomach.
What you walk into.
Format
Once a month, in person, in Phoenix. Roughly two hours. Free. No registration, no paperwork — you tell Mary you're coming and she'll write back with the address.

The room
Therapist-led and strictly confidential. No notes, no recordings, no telling the outside world you were ever in it. The door closes when the meeting starts.

What you do
Talk if you want, listen if you don't. There's no agenda and no pressure. People share what they're carrying. Some weeks it's heavy. Some weeks it's not.

The same room, every first Wednesday, since 2003.
The room has had the same purpose since the start — accepting, comfortable, non-threatening. Trans and gender-diverse folks come, and the spouses, parents, allies, and significant others who walk in with them come too. A handful of us go to dinner together after.

♥ In their own words
What members have said.
As far back as I can remember, at every opportunity I had to make a wish, the wish was always the same. Please, make me a girl. In my 68th year, I took the massive leap of faith and began my discovery of who I, authentically, am. I am one of the lucky ones — I discovered the support group early. It's a treasure of experiences similar to and different from mine, a chance to hear from others that have been there, and a safe place to be fully me.
Reflections shared with the group, printed here with permission. Names abbreviated at each writer's request.
We saved you a seat.
Send the room a note. Someone holding the door this month will write back within a few days with the address.
Leave a message — we'll get back to you in a few days.
